Makarska is a small town on the Adriatic coastline of Croatia, located on the coast of the Adriatic Dalmatia about 60 km southeast of Split and 140 km northwest of Dubrovnik. Administratively Makarska has the status of a town and it is part of the Split-Dalmatia county.
The city is famous for its promenade, where fashionable cafés, bars and boutiques overlook the beautiful harbour. The center of Makarska is an old settlement with narrow stone-paved streets, a main church square and a Franciscan monastery. Adjacent to the beach are several large capacity hotels as well as a camping ground.
Makarska is the tourist center located on a horseshoe shaped bay on the Makarska Riviera, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. The Makarska Riviera stretches for 60km between the towns of Brela and Gradac. This area is one of the most beautiful parts of the Adriatic coast because of its sandy and pebbly beaches, pine trees, sparkling water and peaceful bays.
